Relief swept through the Carmel community as the local police department confirmed that the 16-year-old boy, Justin Vandewalle, who had been reported missing, was located safe. The search for the young individual relied on the collective power of social media and citizen interaction and spanned a troubled yet hopeful community before concluding in success.
The Carmel Police Department posted an alert on their Facebook page, providing details about Justin’s appearance, including his height of 5’11”, weight of 140 lbs, and distinctive black hair and brown eyes. The alert was widely shared, encouraging the public to remain vigilant for him. He was last seen around E 116th St and Rangeline Rd wearing a white dress shirt, black slacks, glasses, and a black puffy coat, according to a Carmel Police Department post.
Carmel Police’s rapid reply to their earlier appeal reassured concerned individuals, releasing the brief but encouraging words: “Justin has been located and is safe.”
