The Chicago Police Department is actively seeking information to help identify a suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred on the Near South Side in May of last year. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 22, 2023, and culminated in a homicide in the 2200 block of S. State St., according to the Chicago Police Department’s community notice.
Investigators have issued an image of the suspect and are requesting public aid in promptly identifying him. A Black male in his 20s or 30s was last seen wearing a beige t-shirt, white jeans, a baseball cap, and white and black shoes. Authorities ask anyone with knowledge about the case to call the police, and they advise civilians not to engage or pursue a possibly violent perpetrator.
The Chicago Police Department emphasizes important safety tips for the community, such as remaining cool if faced by an attacker and getting contact information from any witnesses to the occurrence. The CPD issued a news release detailing the case, which is logged under RD#JG269792, as well as the suspect’s description, in order to garner additional leads.
Area Three Detectives are working hard on the case and hope that the information offered by the public will be critical in apprehending the perpetrator. They are advising residents that while their suggestions can be quite useful in investigations, they must exercise caution and avoid placing themselves in danger. The online community alert system not only informs but also actively engages the community in promoting public safety. Any information, regardless of how insignificant it appears, should be submitted to the police.
