A 23-year-old Silver Spring woman has been charged with manslaughter by vehicle due to gross negligence and other traffic charges following an August 2025 crash that led to the death of an 85-year-old passenger.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) said the investigation revealed that the driver was speeding and weaving through traffic before the crash, and she was released this week on a $15,000 personal bond.
According to the Montgomery County Police Department, “On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Jesica Evelin Argueta of Silver Spring brought herself in on an arrest warrant charging her with manslaughter by vehicle due to gross negligence and other associated traffic charges.
The charges come from a collision that happened on Thursday, August 7, 2025, around 7:44 a.m., near the intersection of Randolph Road and Sherwood Forest Drive in Silver Spring. The accident involved a 2011 Toyota 4Runner, a 2025 Toyota GR86 driven by Argueta, and a 2025 Buick Envista.
The inquiry revealed that Argueta was weaving through morning rush-hour traffic at speeds of up to 84.5 mph in a 40-mph zone prior to the incident. Detectives from Montgomery County Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit found that Argueta’s car collided with the Toyota 4Runner at a speed of approximately 66.5 mph.
The front-seat passenger of the 4Runner, Josephine Maria Gieske of Silver Spring, sustained critical injuries in the incident. Gieske died on August 22, 2025, as a result of his injuries. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was subdural hematoma and severe brain damage.
On January 7, Argueta was released after posting a $15,000 personal bond.
