4 Detained After Early-Morning CVS Robbery in Sugar Land, Jail Escape Attempt Adds Charges

Sugar Land police are investigating an aggravated robbery at a CVS pharmacy in the Greatwood area, which resulted in many arrests and a spectacular escape attempt later that day.

The robbery happened around 1:56 a.m. Sunday at the CVS at 1410 Crabb River Road. Police said four suspects entered the store and beat a staffer before fleeing with a bag of cash. The clerk sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

Houston police were called shortly after the robbery, and a pursuit ensued. One suspect was captured initially, and all four suspects were apprehended thanks to coordinated operations by Houston Police and the Sugar Land Police Department. The inquiry was ongoing while charges were being resolved.

The event became more serious later on Sunday afternoon. At around 4:50 p.m., an SLPD jailer went to check on one of the suspects and was beaten after opening a cell door. During the confrontation, the suspect was able to free the remaining three captives, and all four escaped captivity.

Following an urgent search, police located all four people at approximately 6:20 p.m. and safely took them back into custody. The injured jailer was taken to a hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

The accused were identified as Edmound Guillory, 19; Devontae Simon, 18; and two youths, Desean Dillard, 17, and Clayton Johnson, 17.

In addition to the aggravated robbery allegations stemming from the CVS incident, the suspects are now facing additional accusations ranging from escape to attempted murder. Detectives are still investigating the case and reviewing evidence to decide whether any additional charges will be filed.
