North Texas Man Sentenced To 26 Years In Prison For Assaulting Police Officer During Traffic Stop Shooting

A Tarrant County jury sentenced Devoreia Thompson, 34, to 26 years in prison for aggravated assault against a public servant.

Thompson was found guilty following an incident on May 19, 2024, in which he shot a Fort Worth police officer.

Thompson was initially stopped by Fort Worth police as a suspect in a shooting that occurred the day before.

According to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, the officer was injured by glass shards and debris when the driver exited his vehicle and fired at them during the stop.Tarrant County District Attorney Phil Sorrells thanked the Fort Worth Police Department for their efforts on this case and commitment to keeping our city safe.

Assistant District Attorneys Lucas Allan and Dillan Passmore prosecuted the case, while Clint Leach served as investigator and Laura Medina as victim coordinator.
