A Leesburg man was arrested on drug charges after deputies discovered methamphetamine in a Crown Royal bag beside him during a traffic stop.
Deputies stopped a silver four-door SUV for failing to stop near the junction of Sanford and Griffin Roads in Leesburg at 12 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The female driver refused to allow the vehicle to be searched, but a K-9’s alarm to the smell of narcotics compelled her and the passengers, including 42-year-old Alexander Xavier Keith, to exit.
Law officers discovered a white container in the glove box containing a plastic bag of methamphetamine and a digital scale with powdery residue. According to the report, they located a purple Crown Royal bag in the passenger door containing a glass smoking apparatus and a rock-like substance.
Keith was detained for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia since these items were present in his area. The Georgia native was taken to Lake County Jail and freed after posting a $3,500 bond.
