A Skokie man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday for shooting a woman in the face during an early-morning argument in her “nice White neighborhood” on the Northwest Side in November 2023.
Nathan Frazer, 25, was sentenced by Judge James Obbish after pleading guilty to aggravated violence by discharge of a handgun. According to Illinois law, Frazer must complete 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
According to authorities, the shooting took place about 4 a.m. on November 18, 2023, when Frazer shot a then-20-year-old woman at point-blank range while driving with three other people.
According to officials, Frazer was driven to the victim’s apartment at 2 a.m. by a friend to stay out with her and two others. Frazer and the victim had only met once previously. He arrived with a bottle of vodka and grew irritated when he misplaced his phone, but he calmed down and kept to himself after recovering it in the Lexus he arrived in, according to prosecutors. According to a written proffer provided by prosecutors, about two hours later, the entire gang entered the Lexus to give Frazer a ride home.
Frazer sat behind the driver, with two others in the backseat and the victim in the passenger seat. He became agitated again, yelling for them to take him home, but the driver convinced Frazer that they were simply waiting for the car to heat up, authorities claimed.
As the car began to move, Frazer attempted to open the door and exit, saying that he was leaving. The victim yelled at him to stop behaving up because he was disturbing her neighbors, which worsened the situation.
After Frazer unsuccessfully rushed at the victim, she yelled that he would not harm her “because this is a nice White neighborhood,” according to authorities.
“Who isn’t going to do anything, b***h?” Frazer answered by pulling a revolver from his belt and shooting her in the face, according to authorities.
The victim jumped out of the moving car to escape, and a woman sat in the rear with Frazer stepped out to assist her. According to prosecutors, the victim was hospitalized for six days after suffering a left jawbone fracture.
According to the proffer, Chicago police located and confiscated the white Lexus after discovering blood particles on its exterior. More blood and possible evidence were purportedly discovered inside the automobile during the execution of a search request.
Prosecutors claimed the man who was driving on the night of the shooting approached detectives as they towed the Lexus, telling them he was “just driving and didn’t do anything.” He then requested for a lawyer.
The victim and the woman who came out to help her recognized Frazer as the gunman, according to authorities. He was first charged with attempted first-degree murder but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
