Three people were shot, two fatally, in an apparent murder-suicide in the Bronx on Thursday.
Police arrived at an apartment complex on Johnson Avenue in Riverdale shortly before 8 a.m.
According to reports, the doorman of the Winston Churchill building, which is 20 stories tall, heard a gunshot and contacted 911.
When officers arrived, they discovered a 55-year-old man lying in a first-floor corridor with a gunshot wound to the head. A handgun and a Port Authority Police ID were discovered next to his body.
Emergency personnel discovered a 59-year-old lady dead in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to her head and their 86-year-old mother shot in the face in another room. She was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where she is reported to be in critical but stable condition.
Detectives suspect the man killed his sister, shot his mother, and then shot himself. Police suspect he was a Port Authority Police officer. It’s a huge shock, and I’m not sure what happened to the brother. “I don’t understand it at all,” said the victim’s friend Jane Burbank.
She claims to know the 59-year-old woman’s parents. “They just had a big anniversary party… 65 years together or more,” Burbank explained.
Friends report that the 86-year-old mother had lately moved in with her daughter. “She was a wonderful person,” Burbank stated. “She was full of energy. She loves to dance. She loves to bring people together. She loves to cook. She enjoyed eating and traveling, and she was looking forward to retirement.
Detectives are investigating the event as a domestic gunshot and a possible murder-suicide.
It’s still unclear what caused the tragic family disturbance.
