Unlicensed driver from Mexico working as local roofer detained after running stop sign

An unlicensed driver from Mexico working as a local roofer was detained for running a stop sign.

Around 8 p.m. Tuesday, a deputy pulled over 20-year-old Roberto Carlos Linares Telles of Wildwood in a silver Nissan Altima for failing to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of County Roads 117 and 114 in Wildwood, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

When queried, Linares Telles stated that he did not have a driver’s license and instead presented a Mexican ID card. A check of his information revealed that he had no license and had never been awarded one. However, he indicated that he currently works as a roofer, according to the newspaper.

The Mexican native was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and received a warning for the stop sign infraction. He was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center and freed after posting a $150 bond.
