18-year-old Apprehended In Silver Spring Homicide

Montgomery County Police have apprehended Yoel Christ Tie, 18, in connection with the shooting death of 43-year-old Gavin Boothe on January 8, 2026, in Silver Spring.

Officers rushed to the 3000 block of Briggs Chaney Road around 7:45 p.m. on reports of a shooting. Boothe was found in the street with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators examined security video that captured Boothe in a verbal dispute with two men soon before the incident. Tie was recognized as one of the suspects and has been charged with second-degree murder and felony use of a handgun during a violent offense. He is currently being held at Montgomery County’s Central Processing Unit.
