Inmate Discovered Dead At Pennsylvania Prison, Investigation Underway

An investigation is underway after an inmate was discovered dead in his prison cell in Cumberland County, according to state officials.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, James Campbell, 46, was found unresponsive in his cell at SCI Camp Hill on Sunday, January 25. The prison is situated on Lisburn Road in Lower Allen Township.

Prison staff and medical personnel fought to save Campbell’s life, but she died at around 1:30 p.m., according to officials.

According to authorities, Campbell was serving a life sentence for murder in Delaware County and has been imprisoned at SCI Camp Hill since October 17, 2023.

The Pennsylvania State Police are conducting an inquiry into the event. The Cumberland County Coroner’s Office will establish the cause and manner of death.
