3 People Found Dead In Downtown Houston

Three people were discovered dead in separate locations in downtown Houston on Monday, officials said.

Around 5 p.m., a man and a woman were discovered on Congress Street under US 59 while receiving welfare checks. Investigators discovered the pair under blankets approximately 50 feet apart.

Police stated there were no signs of foul play, although it is unclear whether the chilly weather contributed to their deaths. Autopsies will reveal the cause of death.

Officers in the region were also working to move homeless people off the streets and into shelters or warming centers.

“There’s several people out here that have been camping here,” said Lt. Larry Crowson with the Houston Police Department. “They’re under blankets and stuff. Officers have been offering the opportunity to go to a warming center. We have several centers set up around the city. Two of them agreed to go, and we’ve got some other people refusing. Officers will continue checking on those who stay outside.”

In a separate incident, the body of a female was discovered in Tranquility Park, near Houston City Hall. Police claim there was no evidence of foul play. An autopsy will reveal the cause of death.

Authorities continue to encourage anyone in need of refuge amid the chilly weather to take advantage of the city’s warming centers.

Here’s an update from the scene on the two bodies discovered under the expressway.

This is a developing story, and updates will be added to this article when they become available.
