North Highlands Pair Apprehended After Stuffing Pants at Rocklin Safeway

A man and woman from North Highlands are facing felony charges in connection with a grocery store theft that Rocklin Police are calling a “charcuterie caper.”

Donald Rodriguez, 30, and Sarah Roof, 25, both from North Highlands, were arrested last week following an investigation into the theft of meat goods from a Rocklin Safeway.

The Incident

The Rocklin Police Department issued a statement, alleging that Rodriguez “stuffed” his pants with unpaid meat inside the store.

While retail theft is typically classed as a misdemeanor based on the value of the products stolen, authorities say Rodriguez’s criminal history considerably increased the charges. Rodriguez was on active parole at the time of the crime and carrying a GPS monitoring device imposed by the court.

The Arrest

The pair was apprehended in North Highlands after being tracked down by Rocklin Police’s Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) Unit, which was assisted by parole agents.

Rodriguez’s “prior qualifying convictions,” according to the police, make the theft a felony.

“Not Worth the Bacon”

The Rocklin Police Department used humor in a social media release about the arrest to underscore the seriousness of the penalties for the initial shoplifting incident.

“Donald’s bail?” “A cool $135,000, plus a no-bail parole hold,” the department stated. “All stemming from a decision that definitely wasn’t worth the bacon.”

Sarah Roof was also arrested on several criminal charges stemming from the event.
