An Elmira woman was detained on Friday as a fugitive from justice after deputies claimed she violated her parole in Pennsylvania and was later found during a traffic stop in New York.
Ashley E. Spencer, 37, was arrested Friday, Jan. 23, on a Pennsylvania fugitive from justice warrant for parole violation, as well as New York State charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and criminal impersonation in the second degree, according to a Chemung County Sheriff’s Office release.
A deputy stopped a woman, later identified as Spencer, at 6 p.m. on Friday for violating a New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, according to the release. During the stop, Spencer was found in possession of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine. Additionally, when the deputy attempted to identify Spencer, she gave a false name, according to the release. Spencer was subsequently transported to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
As a result, Spencer was recognized and determined to have an outstanding arrest warrant from Pennsylvania. Deputies stated that she was then processed and charged with the additional counts listed above outside of New York State. Spencer was arraigned in court and transferred to the Chemung County Jail for extradition to Pennsylvania.
