A Gresham man accused of stealing dozens of utility trailers and reselling them across Oregon and Washington has been arrested again. According to court records, he once sold a stolen trailer to someone in Beaverton before stealing it and selling it to another person.
Nickolas Alexander Edwards, 34, is facing various charges in Marion and Multnomah counties, including first-degree theft, three counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, and four counts of possessing a stolen vehicle.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Multnomah County on Tuesday, Edwards was previously arrested and charged with trailer theft in Clark County in February 2024. Since then, he has been tied to multiple crimes, all while undergoing GPS ankle tracking during his pre-trial release.
Last August, Edwards pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a vehicle in Marion County and was sentenced to 18 months’ probation. However, the day before he pled guilty, an indictment claimed he committed first-degree theft and unlawful use of a vehicle in Marion County. According to court data, that case is still pending, as are two other Multnomah County cases involving allegations of first-degree theft, illegal use of a vehicle, reckless driving, and escape from police.
Last March, while on GPS monitoring, Edwards trespassed on someone’s property and stole their trailer.
The second Multnomah County case derives from a February 2024 Clark County investigation in which Edwards was tied to “dozens of trailer thefts totaling losses close to $200,000,” including items stolen from the trailers as well as the trailers themselves.
According to court filings, Edwards stole trailers under several aliases for months before selling them online through OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace. He had at least two locations where he would store the stolen trailers, which a Multnomah County District Attorney detective was able to connect to his GPS ankle monitor’s location, as well as the locations and times of many thefts in the Portland region.
In a case from last October, a man reported the theft of his $6,000 trailer from his home. Soon after, the Beaverton Police Department called the victim to inform him that his stolen trailer had been sold to someone else in Beaverton and then stolen again.
Following a month-long investigation, Edwards was arrested on January 15 by the MCSO’s Auto Theft Task Force and Portland police.
