A U.S. government contractor accused of stealing millions in cryptocurrency from federal law enforcement has been arrested.
Authorities say the contractor took $46 million from the U.S. Marshals Service before fleeing to a Caribbean island.
John Daghita was arrested on the island of Saint Martin by French law enforcement’s elite tactical unit during a joint operation with the FBI, director Kash Patel announced.
“FBI will continue working 24/7 with our international partners to track down, apprehend, and bring to justice those who attempt to defraud American taxpayers—no matter where they try to hide,” Patel wrote on X.
An accompanying photo shows Daghita being escorted by law enforcement, alongside an image displaying hard drives and a briefcase packed with bundles of $100 bills.
The case gained momentum after a blockchain investigator known as ZachXBT on X reported that Daghita had stolen millions from government crypto wallets.
Daghita, whose hacker alias is “Lick,” is reportedly the son of Dean Daghita, the CEO of Command Services and Support (CDMSS), a company that received a $4 million contract in 2024 to assist the Marshals with the US Bitcoin Reserve.
