A Mexican national residing illegally in Dallas has been sentenced to federal prison for methamphetamine trafficking in the Eastern District of Texas, according to U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.
Francisco Ortuno, a 29-year-old Mexican national, pled guilty to conspiring to distribute and possessing methamphetamine with the purpose to distribute. He was sentenced to 170 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant, III, on March 4, 2026.
According to court documents, federal investigators began investigating a drug trafficking organization operating in Mexico that operated a narcotics distribution cell in North Texas. The inquiry resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, guns, and substantial quantities of US currency.
Federal authorities executed a search warrant at the drug trafficking enterprise’s Dallas home on October 4, 2022. When agents entered the house, a suspect inside opened fire on them. Despite the suspect and Ortuno’s on-foot escape, they managed to apprehend and imprison them. Agents recovered more than 30 kilograms of methamphetamine, four weapons, various drug ledgers, and supplies for methamphetamine conversion.
This lawsuit is part of the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) project launched by Executive Order 14159, Protecting the American People from Invasion. The HSTF is a government-wide effort to combat criminal cartels, international gangs, transnational criminal organizations, and human smuggling and trafficking rings operating in the United States and overseas.
The HSTF focuses on investigating and prosecuting individuals implicated in child trafficking or other crimes involving children. It uses all available tools to prosecute and deport the most violent criminal aliens from the United States, including collaboration with local law enforcement, intelligence sharing, and leveraging federal resources to ensure comprehensive legal action against these offenders.
The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated the case, and Wes Wynne, Assistant United States Attorney, prosecuted it.
