Man Sentenced To Prison After Embezzling $1.6 Million from NJ Car Dealerships

An employee at a high-end car dealership in New Jersey is facing prison time for tax fraud.

Jooyeong Lee, of Westbury, New York, previously pleaded guilty in Newark federal court to filing a fraudulent federal income tax return. Earlier this week, he received an 18-month sentence.

According to federal authorities, Lee embezzled over $1.6 million from several high-end car dealerships in New Jersey where he worked between 2015 and 2021. When he filed his tax returns, he did not disclose or pay taxes on the monies as income.

Lee’s tax loss was $494,082 during a seven-year period.
