2 People Apprehended After Shooting Incident In South Carolina

Two people have been apprehended in connection with a shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon in West Columbia.

According to the West Columbia Police Department, 19-year-old Jaeden Jones and 18-year-old Ty’ron Bethea were detained following the incident.

Jones has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm while committing a violent crime, criminal conspiracy, and possession of marijuana. Bethea has been charged with possession of marijuana.

Police said officers were dispatched to the 2401 Augusta Road neighborhood at 4:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. The address relates to a Walmart location.

Dispatchers first reported that a white Chevrolet Tahoe was involved in the shooting; however, it was not seen on the site. Officers discovered a gray Nissan Altima in the eastbound lane of Augusta Road that was thought to be connected to the incident.

Authorities also spotted a third vehicle, a dark sedan with damaged glass, in the Walmart parking lot. Officers discovered many shot casings in the parking lot, but authorities have not confirmed whether this is where the incident occurred.

Witnesses reported seeing two suspects with firearms fleeing toward Beverly Drive. When police arrived in the area, multiple bystanders pointed them to a nearby woodline, where they discovered three suspects. Two of them matched witness descriptions and were taken into arrest.

According to police, a third suspect fled the scene toward Walmart via nearby railroad lines. Authorities have not confirmed whether that person has been located.

No casualties were immediately reported. The investigation is underway.
