Dickson Man Charged With Human Trafficking And Aggravated Stalking

A Dickson man will face court on Thursday after police apprehended him three times in February.

Steven Wilson Swope, 70, was arrested on Sunday, February 1; Wednesday, February 25; and Thursday, February 26, said Dickson County Sheriff’s Office public relations officer Capt. Jennifer Caruthers. The City of Dickson Police Department investigated all of the events.

According to arrest affidavits obtained from the Dickson County General Sessions Court, on February 1, Swope called the police to his home on Royal Oak Drive, claiming he had been assaulted by a woman living there, the name of whom was redacted in the arrest affidavits provided to The Dickson Post.

Swope allegedly told officers that the woman attempted to smoke a marijuana joint in his home, and when he pulled it away from her, she punched him in the face, knocking him down and causing his dentures to fall out. Swope’s injuries, according to officers, were consistent with his claim.

The woman, however, reportedly told investigators that the altercation began the night before when Swope allegedly demanded sex from her in order to “fulfill her side of the contract.” She claimed that when she refused and went to her room, Swope grew upset and began yelling, cursing, and threatening to break down the door. The debate lasted until the next day, when the altercation over the joint began. Swope allegedly seized the woman’s throat and said, “I’m going to beat your face in.”

Officers decided that Swope was the principal aggressor in the confrontation.

Officers discovered that after the woman lost her disability benefits, Swope allegedly entered into a contract with her, which he notarized, under which her son and she would live in his home rent-free and he would provide maintenance on her vehicle in exchange for sex twice a week and on weekends as determined, and Swope would perform his “husband” duties.

The lady informed police that Swope’s current female partner was envious of the arrangement, and Swope and the other woman allegedly told her to leave in May of last year. She claimed Swope had changed his mind and wanted to continue the sexual relationship. She claims he made up a new contract, extending her right to dwell in his home for another 24 months with the option to renew. When he allegedly got aggressive and violent toward her, she refused to have sex with him again, at which point Swope allegedly threatened her, choked her, slapped her, screamed at her, and called her names. The woman stated that she felt obligated to follow the terms of the contract in order to prevent being evicted or being physically harmed.

The woman reportedly told investigators that she suffers from retardation caused by fluid on her brain.

Swope was arrested for domestic violence, compulsory labor servitude, and trafficking in commercial sex.

According to another arrest affidavit, Swope’s accuser contacted detectives back to his home on Feb. 9, alleging that when she returned home from work, she discovered damage to the screen door handle, as well as some boxes and a long wooden table missing. She claimed they belonged to Swope, but due to the domestic abuse allegations and subsequent release agreement, Swope was instructed to remain away from the property and avoid contact with his accuser.

Officers claimed they spoke with Swope and his current female partner over the phone. Swope allegedly denied having visited the house and taken anything. The female partner reportedly informed police that she had broken the door after being locked out of the residence and that a table was missing, but she denied that she or Swope had taken it.

However, Flock cameras in the area saw Swope’s car in the area about that time, with what seemed to be a wooden rectangular-shaped table protruding from the bed of his truck.

Swope was arrested again, this time for violating a condition of release.

According to the arrest complaint dated February 24, Swope’s accuser informed police that Swope had been phoning her and leaving weird voicemail messages from both his and a private phone. She also said Swope had been following her around, including when she dropped off her son at school in Fairview. The accuser reportedly claimed Swope called her current boyfriend and left a threatening voicemail message for him, claiming he knew where he lived and advised him to check his mail for a card. Officers said the woman supplied call logs and voicemail messages to back up her accusations.

Swope was arrested a third time, for aggravated stalking.

Swope is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, March 12.
