Police: Man Charged After Purse Robbery In Orland Park Leads To Chicago Pursuit

A man accused of robbing a woman in southwest suburban Orland Park was apprehended after a police chase ended in Chicago, authorities said.

The incident happened Thursday in the parking lot of 288 Orland Square Drive, according to Orland Park police.

According to authorities, a woman reported that a suspect violently grabbed her purse. The suspect escaped in a car before authorities arrived.

Midlothian police located the suspect’s vehicle around 159th Street and Laramie Avenue and tracked it to 111th Street and Interstate 57, where Chicago police were waiting to assist.

The suspect then escaped, and Chicago police began a pursuit.

The chase concluded in the 3300 block of South Wood Street in Chicago, where the suspect crashed his vehicle and escaped on foot, according to police.

He was eventually apprehended by Chicago police and recognized by the victim as the individual who took her pocketbook, authorities said. Authorities recognized him as Malik Campbell of Peoria.

According to police, Campbell has been charged with robbery, a Class 2 felony. There have been no further details revealed.
