Smoke shop worker charged with shooting and killing man in shootout

A smoke shop worker was charged on Sunday with multiple counts of shooting a man after a gunfight erupted outside his workplace.

Luhizo S. Maalin, 26, has been charged with shooting and killing one of two males who were killed outside a smoke store on Saturday afternoon in the 1400 block of N. 13th Street.

According to court documents, an argument started outside the Dragon Smoke Shop. The argument led to  a gunfight, during which several people were shot.

Maalin went outside and shot one of the individuals engaged in the shooting while he was on the ground, unarmed and injured.

Surveillance video shows Maalin walking out of the store, shooting the man multiple times, and returning inside three times.

When cops arrived at the site, they discovered Maalin holding the gun he used to shoot the man.

When emergency personnel came, the individual who had been shot was pronounced dead on the scene.

Maalin has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and armed criminal activity.
