Woman apprehended for subway slashing in Brooklyn Heights

A man standing on the platform of the Clark Street subway station in Brooklyn Heights was slashed by a knife-wielding woman shortly after 8 p.m. Friday.

Police from Transit District 30 and the 84th Precinct converged on the station, located at the intersection of Clark and Henry streets, and immediately detained the 41-year-old suspect, who was led out of the station handcuffed.

Bobby Andrew, a Bedford-Stuyvesant resident, was charged with two counts of assault and one count of criminal possession of a weapon. A knife was discovered on the scene, according to a witness.

Police said they received a 911 call at 8:07 p.m. reporting an attack in progress. Responders discovered the 46-year-old victim on the station’s southbound 2/3 platform with a slash to the hand. He was sent to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital in stable condition.

Trains skipped the station for a short time while the investigation was ongoing.

A spokeswoman for the New York Police Department said transit officers were responsible for the arrest. Police were unable to establish a motive for the incident by press time.

Councilmember Lincoln Restler, who represents the region, stated last month that his office had received numerous reports about an increase in mentally ill and homeless people at the station. These include an unruly naked man who was allegedly conducting indecent behaviors inside the station.

“Our office has funded new cameras for the station, and we have worked with NYPD and homeless outreach providers to increase their presence in the station,” according to his newsletter for the month of February.
