Two people in Arizona learned the hard way: “Don’t engage in road rage.”
On March 20, Arizona Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol State Troopers responded to a 911 call reporting a gun-toting driver on Interstate 10, heading toward Loop 202. The caller claimed the car cut him off, nearly driving him off the road, and then pointed a gun at him before speeding away.
According to a news release from the DPS, 911 dispatchers urged the caller to stop following the suspect and obey the speed limit. The caller continued to follow the car.
Troopers discovered both vehicles going at “criminal speeds” and still involved in a road rage incident.
After both vehicles were stopped, both drivers confirmed to troopers that they were involved in the incident and had been driving at a high pace. Both drivers were arrested and charged with criminal speeding and disorderly behavior, with one facing an additional weapons-related allegation.
According to a DPS news release, if you experience road rage while driving, remember that “cooler heads prevail.” “When driving, keep your anger or frustration at bay and drive with patience,” the DPS advised. “If you encounter road rage from another driver, do not engage.”
