The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that a hiker who was reported missing in East County over the weekend has been found deceased.
According to sheriff’s officials, the 40-year-old man began his hike to El Cajon Mountain in Lakeside around 8 a.m. Saturday, at a trailhead in the 13700 block of Blue Sky Ranch Road.
The following day, family members contacted the sheriff’s office to report him missing after he did not return.
On Sunday, groups of sheriff’s deputies and detectives, as well as search and rescue volunteers, combed the region for many hours. The sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter also assisted in the search from the air.
The missing hiker’s body was located near one of the hiking paths just east of the trailhead around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to officials.
According to sheriff’s officials, the body has been handed over to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. The medical examinera will positively identify the guy and ascertain the cause and manner of death, pending notification of his family.”
