Two men were apprehended early Friday for attempting to rob a pharmacy in a Chelsea hospital.
A group of four people is suspected of perpetrating many robberies at neighborhood pharmacies, including an attempted robbery at the University of Michigan Health Chelsea Health Center, according to Chelsea Police Department spokesperson Kevin Kazyak.
Around 2:40 a.m. on March 20, police were dispatched to the hospital, 14700 E. Old U.S. 12, for a complaint of a burglary in progress. Multiple individuals tried to break into the pharmacy.
Police said they pursued a car matching the description of a suspect vehicle as it left the area. The automobile was discovered abandoned and uninhabited on the 17000 block of W. Old U.S. 12.
Two males from Detroit were identified and arrested. Two other suspects “remain unidentified and at large,” according to authorities.
The arrested men, aged 39 and 40, were later released, awaiting further investigation, according to Dan Whitesall, spokesperson for the Chelsea Police Department.
Kazyak stated that nothing was stolen from the drugstore due to recently installed security enhancements.
Kazyak believes the suspects also broke into pharmacies and smoke businesses in Shelby Township, Novi, Flat Rock, and East Lansing.
