A 41-year-old Lakeland woman was detained this week after officials linked her to the late-night theft of a security camera from a Bartow house. Ashley Alyssa Pope was booked into the Sheriff’s Processing Center on March 20, capping off an investigation into a crime that the victim alleges was part of a larger pattern.
On March 2, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a Ring camera was removed from a residence.
The victim instantly referred investigators to Pope, a friend of her grandson. According to the homeowner, this was not the first time the hardware had gone missing; she told deputies that Pope had taken the exact same camera during earlier disagreements with the grandson.
The previous interactions had never been reported to the police.
Detectives were able to validate the victim’s accusations using digital evidence. According to investigation documents, Pope’s vehicle was linked to the victim’s house at the exact same moment the camera was stolen.
Pope is now facing legal ramifications for the grab. She was charged with one count of Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling, a second-degree felony, and one count of Petit Theft, a first-degree misdemeanor.
