Lakeland Duo Arrested After Stealthy E-Bike Theft

A late-night heist in Lakeland’s Combee area was quickly resolved this week when two 18-year-old roommates were apprehended. The event began shortly after midnight on March 21, 2026, when an electric bicycle worth $750 was stolen from the porch of a local home.

While the theft was committed by two people, one of whom was wearing a mask, the inquiry got traction because of some extremely specific information offered by the community. Locals remembered seeing a young man the day before the crime who was talking about playing basketball.

Throughout the chats, the man claimed to be a US Marine and was observed carrying a set of handcuffs in his pocket.

That description seemed familiar to a deputy from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Recalling a trespassing incident at a Harvey’s store the night before, the deputy checked his records and recognized the suspect as Michael Rogers. Rogers, 18, resides just two streets away from the location of the bike theft.

Deputies followed the trail and identified the second suspect as Rogers’ roommate, 18-year-old Jonathan White. When challenged by authorities, both men made complete confessions. The stolen e-bike was successfully recovered and returned to the rightful owner.

Both guys are now facing legal penalties. Rogers’ mask-wearing during the theft automatically elevated his charges by one degree under Florida law. He was charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling and grand theft from a dwelling.

White, who was on probation, faces the same burglary and theft charges, plus a probation violation. Both individuals were booked into the sheriff’s processing center after being arrested.
