A 32-year-old man was taken into custody after 19 dogs were discovered in extreme neglect in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, according to Chicago police.
Police said the Animal Crimes and Investigating Team got a search warrant for a location in the 7100 block of S. Martin Luther King Drive. Around 8:11 a.m., officials searched the area and discovered 19 dogs in varying levels of serious abuse, according to police.
The animals were taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control for assessment.
Officials said a 32-year-old man has been apprehended.
Further information regarding the dogs has not been given. Police have yet to identify the man who was arrested or what charges he may face.
Area One detectives are investigating the incident.
Chicago Animal Care and Control also posted a note on Facebook stating that they have limited space following this removal. They say they’re reaching out to their partners to make place for new arrivals.
The center is requesting that anyone planning to bring in an owner-surrendered animal postpone their visit if possible. PAWS Chicago will be present to provide support, assistance, and resources. They stated that they will continue to take any strays or animals in need of immediate care.
They also recommend that individuals try posting found animal pages around the neighborhood to reunite animals with their prior owners.
According to Chicago Animal custody and Control, the dogs in their custody are not now accessible.
