Cheri Austin, one of the suspects in a Chicago-to-Green Bay drug operation, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Austin, 52, was previously convicted of delivering fentanyl and cocaine. Judge Samantha Wagner also placed her on 15 years of extended supervision during Wednesday’s hearing, according to court records.
Five search warrants were served in Brown County in July 2024. A simultaneous search of the stash house in Chicago turned up 12 kilograms (26 pounds) of fentanyl, four kilograms (nine pounds) of cocaine, 748 grams (1.6 pounds) of meth, 460 grams (one pound) of heroin, 16 weapons, and some marijuana.
Seven persons were initially charged following the announcement of the arrests. Prosecutors have later stated that this was the state’s first wiretap investigation into fentanyl, and at least 47 persons are facing prosecution.
Regarding the other individuals who were initially arrested:
- Felton Currie, who police identified as the ringleader, was sentenced to 40 years in prison in the case
- Michael Oliver was sentenced to 15 years in prison
- Ebony Austin will be sentenced June 23
- Kyla Sanache has a status conference April 15
- Jessica Wright is scheduled to stand trial June 1
- James Grandberry has a status conference April 10
James Grandberry also has an appeal pending, arguing that his charges should be dropped because he waited over a year to hire an attorney and have a preliminary hearing, which is usually needed within 10 days.
