Ohio State fraternity placed under interim suspension following incident that left student hospitalized

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio State University fraternity has been placed on interim suspension after an incident earlier this week left a student hospitalized, university spokesperson Ben Johnson confirmed.

Johnson said the suspension involves the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He did not provide details about what led to the student’s hospitalization but noted it occurred after a fraternity event on Wednesday.

An interim suspension bars the fraternity from hosting or taking part in any activities as a registered student organization while an investigation or conduct process is underway.

The chapter must also halt all new member activities during the suspension period.

Pi Kappa Phi’s national headquarters confirmed to 10TV that it is aware of the situation and issued the following statement:

“The purpose of the interim suspension is to allow National Headquarters staff to investigate alleged violations of Pi Kappa Phi’s Risk Management Policy and standards of conduct. During this time, all chapter activities have been paused.”

“The health and safety of our members and the campus community remain our top priority, and the alleged behavior does not align with the values and expectations of Pi Kappa Phi.

We are working closely with our university partners as we gather more information. Because this is an active investigation, we cannot provide additional details at this time.”

“Ohio State is in contact with the student and his family, and the university has offered all possible support during this extremely difficult time,” Johnson said in a statement.

The university has also been in contact with law enforcement regarding the situation.
