19-year-old taken into custody after leading police on chase through Shinnston in stolen truck

A 19-year-old man was taken into custody after leading police on a pursuit through Shinnston in a stolen truck early Tuesday morning.

Evan Grimes of Bruceton Mills has been charged with fleeing while under the influence, according to the Shinnston Police Department.

Police attempted to stop Grimes on South Pike Street after noticing that the Ford F-150 he was driving had substantial frontend damage and was swerving. His parents had reported the vehicle stolen. Grimes ultimately came to a stop in front of Gibby’s, but as the officer approached his window, he accelerated, according to court filings.

According to authorities, Grimes hit a closed gate on East Pike Street, striking a vehicle and two trailers. He eventually stepped out of the car and ran on foot.

Police eventually discovered Grimes on the rail trail and apprehended him. Police stated there was a heavy odor of alcohol on his breath and many canisters of Fireball in the vehicle.

Grimes was previously charged with DUI in February 2025; possession of stolen items in November 2025; grand larceny in December 2025; and reckless driving, leaving the scene, and resisting arrest in February 2025, according to court documents.

He is currently in the North Central Regional Jail, with a $10,000 bond.
