56-year-old El Paso Man Killed After Crash In West El Paso; 19-year-old Detained

A late-night crash in west El Paso on Monday left a 56-year-old man dead and triggered a DWI investigation, according to police.

At 9:17 p.m., the El Paso Police Department responded to two separate crashes in the 6300 block of N. Desert.

According to police, the first collision involved four vehicles.

A 2016 BMW 428i and a 2026 Subaru Outback collided shortly after the first crash.

According to investigators, Jaime Humberto Andrade, 56, of El Paso, was driving the Subaru Outback when the BMW struck him from behind at high speed.

The BMW driver was identified as Ambar Chavira, a 19-year-old El Paso resident.

Chavira is facing charges in connection with a fatal crash.

According to authorities, Andrade was taken to the hospital but died as a result of his injuries acquired in the crash.

Special Traffic Investigators and the DWI Task Force were dispatched to the scene.

Investigators believe drinking played a role in the collision.

Police reported that this was the 15th road death of the year, compared to 19 at the same time last year.
