Columbus – A man has received a nearly 90-year prison sentence after raping an elderly woman in east Columbus last year.
According to court records, a Franklin County jury convicted Miguel Rodriguez Rolon on four felony charges, including the rape of an 87-year-old woman in January 2025.
A Columbus police criminal complaint states that officers responded to a home in the Eastmoor neighborhood following reports of a rape. Investigators spoke with the victim, who said she had been tied up and raped on the night of Jan. 13.
The woman contacted police in the early hours of Jan. 14. During a forensic interview, she said she had fallen asleep and woke to find a man standing over her. He raped her, then tied her up and left her in the kitchen before stealing her car.
After roughly three hours, the victim was able to cut herself free and discovered that her car was missing from a detached garage.
CPD detectives recovered a thumbprint from a bottle of disinfectant wipes, which helped identify Rolon as a suspect. Investigators also found that Rolon lived just blocks away from the victim.
Rolon, 31, was taken into custody two days later and pleaded not guilty to all charges — two counts of rape and one count each of kidnapping and aggravated burglary, all first-degree felonies.
After a jury found Rolon guilty in March, a common pleas judge sentenced him to serve 84 to 89.5 years in prison. He will also be required to register as a Tier III sex offender and a violent offender.
