Police say an 18-year-old Chicago man was arrested Wednesday morning, just hours after a woman was forced out of her car at gunpoint on the city’s West Side. Investigators report that the 30-year-old victim did not sustain serious injuries during the carjacking, which took place in the 3300 block of West Harrison Street.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, the suspect is Tyjuan Saffold, an 18-year-old. He was captured around 10:23 a.m. on Wednesday, less than 12 hours after the suspected carjacking on West Harrison, according to police.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, Saffold is charged with one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, as well as two felony counts of controlled narcotic possession.
According to an October 20, 2025, statement from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, state funds and task forces have helped reduce carjackings from 1,852 in 2021 to 379 so far this year. In a separate analysis of city data, a CBS Chicago assessment of Chicago Police numbers discovered that motor vehicle thefts fell substantially in 2024 and credited techniques such as license-plate readers with increased recoveries, which authorities say assist police in tracing stolen vehicles and suspects. These patterns were documented by both the Illinois Secretary of State and CBS Chicago.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, Saffold was set for a detention hearing Thursday and remains in custody pending additional court actions. Officials have not provided any further details about the inquiry beyond what the station received.
Authorities point to the arrest chronology as another rapid response in a vehicle theft investigation. However, community advocates have emphasized the need of prosecution and preventative initiatives. Court records and any official filings will provide the most detailed public account of how this matter progresses, and coverage will be updated as new papers become available.
