A man was sentenced for attempting to kill a Central Florida deputy.
Logan Williams, 29, will serve the rest of his life in jail after a jury convicted him of attempting to kill a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy while fleeing arrest.
The Seffner man was sentenced to two consecutive life terms plus 105 years in prison for attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer.
The conviction stems from an event in January 2025, when deputies rushed to a home on Williams Road in Tampa after the defendant injured his 87-year-old grandmother with a knife during an argument.
When deputies arrived, Williams fled in his vehicle. A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop him by using stop sticks and a marked patrol vehicle to block the exit. Williams then purposefully hit the vehicle, hurting both the deputy and a civilian employee.
In February, a jury found Williams guilty of several charges, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer with a weapon, attempted second-degree murder with a weapon, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery on a person over 65, aggravated fleeing to elude, driving under the influence with property damage, and several other offenses.
“When you target the very men and women who risk their lives to protect our community, we will pursue justice to the fullest extent of the law,” said Suzy Lopez, state attorney. “Thanks to the work of our prosecutors and law enforcement partners, this defendant will never walk the streets again.”
Assistant State Attorneys Anna Ismer and Karina Simmons were successful in prosecuting this case. State Attorney Suzy Lopez oversees all criminal prosecutions in Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, Temple Terrace, and Plant City.
