‘Disorderly DoorDasher’ apprehended after dispute at Machesney Park Pizza Hut

A new court date has been set for a Rockford man charged with disorderly conduct after an altercation at a Pizza Hut.

Gordon Michaelson, 48, appeared in court on April 10, and a pretrial conference was scheduled for May 18, according to documents.

Around 5 p.m. on Jan. 31, deputies were dispatched to the Pizza Hut on West Lane Road in Machesney Park in response to a “disorderly DoorDasher.” According to the article, Michaelson believed personnel at the restaurant “stole” money from him during a previous order and demanded that the pizza company reimburse him. Michaelson reportedly informed authorities that he felt the staff took his tip money and stole from other DoorDashers.

Employees disagreed with Michaelson’s remarks. They claim they received an order over the phone, collected the customer’s payment information, and printed the receipt. Michaelson arrived at 2:30 p.m. to pick up his food and allegedly told a staff member that he “likes to cause scenes at restaurants” in the hopes of being blacklisted. The employee informed the deputy that Michaelson referenced Little Caesar’s, and she was perplexed by his comment.

He left with the order and supposedly returned 30 minutes later. Even after she gave him the receipt, the employee claims he informed her that the order had not been paid. Witnesses reported the two having a heated dispute before the employee requested assistance from another colleague. According to them, the confrontation continued until personnel requested that Michaelson to leave.

Shortly before 5 p.m., Michaelson allegedly returned to the location for the third time and clashed with staff, who later phoned police.

According to the deputy’s report, Michaelson admitted to visiting the restaurant three times and disputing with employees, but denied yelling.

He was eventually detained for disorderly conduct, served with a summons to court, and barred from returning to Pizza Hut.

According to court documents, Michaelson pled not guilty to the accusation in March and was released on conditions.

Michaelson was placed into the Winnebago County Jail on April 9 after failing to appear for court on April 3. According to records, he was freed from jail following his April 10 hearing.
