The former principal of Spoto High School has been arrested for failing to disclose that a 4-year-old was improperly touched by a teen at the school’s daycare, according to deputies.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Jazrick Haggins, 42, was arrested on Friday by the Lakeland Police Department and sent to the Polk County Jail.
On May 9, detectives from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office’s special victims unit began investigating. Investigators said that a 16-year-old suspect allegedly handled a 4-year-old victim at the Spoto High School-operated daycare.
However, those claims were brought to Haggins in April but went unreported to the Department of Children and Families and police enforcement for 14 days, according to officials.
According to investigators, Haggins acknowledged knowing about the charges and conducted his own inquiry.
HCSO has not revealed the identification of the 16-year-old suspect in this instance.
According to a spokesman for Hillsborough County Public Schools, Haggins is not the current principal of Spoto High School. He had been on leave during the investigation and has not attended school this year.
