A retired police officer from Massachusetts was apprehended in a blood-stained room in a new development near The Villages.
According to a Lady Lake Police Department arrest record, the wife of 65-year-old Lawrence Sullivan called 911 at 1 a.m. on Sunday. She claimed that her spouse had “consumed a high amount of vodka and was acting strangely.”
Lake County Fire Rescue arrived first on the scene and saw “visible blood throughout the bedroom and bathroom” of the property on Port Blue Way in the new Hammock Oaks subdivision. Sullivan became “highly agitated” and started threatening EMS staff. According to the report, he claimed to be a “retired cop who is well-versed in his duties.”
There was an obvious laceration in his left ear. Sullivan claimed he had fallen. The EMS staff intended to send him to the hospital after determining that he had fallen and sustained a possible head injury. He rebuffed their efforts.
The EMS staff was able to move him onto a stretcher, but Sullivan used his right hand to smack one of them in the groin.
A police officer intervened.
“I am going to beat your ass and kill you,” Sullivan threatened the cop.
Sullivan attempted to kick the officer, but his legs were tied on the stretcher.
After being taken to the hospital, Sullivan apologized to the officer and requested to be released as a “professional courtesy,” citing his past years in police enforcement.
He is charged with violence on EMS and threats to a law enforcement officer. He was booked into the Lake County Jail and released after posting a $7,500 bond.
According to Lake County Property Appraiser records, Sullivan and his wife paid $257,480 for their townhome in Hammock Oaks earlier this year.
