On November 5, 2025, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers detained Alan Eduardo Garcia, a 31-year-old undocumented Mexican immigrant, in Chicago. Garcia, who has prior convictions for violent crimes, was apprehended as part of Operation Midway Blitz. He attempted to elude police by jumping from a third-floor balcony. Officers intervened and detained him after he resisted arrest and assaulted them.

Garcia has been convicted of felony strangling, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, battery resulting in bodily harm, and aggravated battery on a disabled or pregnant person. He also has outstanding charges for unlawful use of a firearm. Garcia previously had Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status, which was denied in 2019.

The operation started on October 8, when ICE authorities attempted to arrest Garcia during a vehicle stop. He fled, crashed into a government car, and led cops on a high-speed chase. A Customs and Border Protection chopper aided with the pursuit. Garcia drove at over 100 mph before exiting the truck and fleeing on foot.

During his final arrest, Garcia attempted to leave and fought officers. Two ICE officers were injured and got medical attention. Garcia is currently in ICE custody pending immigration procedures. Authorities urge the public to submit any information regarding criminal activities to the ICE Tip Line.
