A deadly rollover crash on Chicago’s Southwest Side killed three people late Saturday night according to authorities. Witnesses reported a vehicle overturning and bursting into flames along a busy stretch of road, prompting emergency officials to respond.
According to Chicago police, a single vehicle lost control at high speed, collided with a curb or median, rolled many times, and came to rest upside down. The car was severely damaged, locking all three people inside as flames erupted from the engine area.
Firefighters arrived quickly and managed to extinguish the fire and rescue the victims, but all three were pronounced dead on the site, according to the Chicago Fire Department. According to officials, the incident did not appear to involve any other vehicles.
The Major Accidents Investigation Unit has taken over the case to establish what caused the incident.
