The Blountstown Police Department has detained a man in connection with a Sunday night shooting that left one person dead.
Officers arrived at Calhoun Liberty Hospital after a shooting victim was brought in. Despite medical personnel’s best efforts to save his life, the man died in the hospital.
Investigators determined that the shooting took place at Cooper’s Park in Blountstown. Multiple shell casings were discovered at the site, and authorities identified 21-year-old Kellen Alexander Speights as the culprit.
Officials followed Speights’ vehicle to Tallahassee, where Leon County Sheriff’s officials attempted a traffic stop. Speights abandoned his car and escaped on foot but was later arrested. He faces an open homicide accusation as well as running and eluding.
