Dale W. Collier, 53, was initially detained for attempted reckless homicide (involuntary manslaughter).

The Coles County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Collier with attempted first-degree murder based on the facts discovered throughout the investigation.

The inquiry began when the Mattoon Police Department received a call about a hit-and-run involving a vehicle that struck an adult. Despite the egregious act, the victim is in good health.

Collier has been detained at the Coles County Detention Center.
