A Lake Charles man is in jail after deputies say he hit a pedestrian on Nelson Road and drove away.
A guy was walking south on the edge of the road south of Ham Reid Road after midnight Sunday when he was hit by a northbound SUV and thrown to the ground, according to Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent. He was taken to the hospital with wounds, lacerations, and bruises to his right torso, arm, and leg.
Detectives identified the suspect car as a Nissan Rogue, which they discovered parked in front of the owner’s house with damage to the front right fender and passenger side mirror consistent with the incident, Vincent said.
Stephen Michael Sachs, 43, was working on the SUV when the deputies discovered it. Vincent stated that he had “struck something” on Nelson Road.
Sachs was charged with felony hit-and-run driving resulting in serious bodily injury. According to jail records, he is still held on a $150,000 bond.
