Pomeroy FD announces officers for 2018-2019

POMEROY, Ohio – The Pomeroy Fire Department is announced on Dec. 18, 2017 the line officers and firemen’s association officers for 2018-2019 to be effective January 1, 2018.

For the Pomeroy Fire Department officers will be: Rick Blaettnar, chief; Todd Smith, first assistant chief; Derek Miller, second assistant chief; Eddie Fife, first captain; Adam Smith, second captain; Michael Blaettnar, first lieutenant; Ben Young, second lieutenant; and Willie Zahran, third lieutenant.

Pomeroy Firemen’s Association Officers will be: Eddie Fife, president; Aaron Oliphant, Vice President; and Derek Miller, secretary/treasurer.

Rick Blaettnar, Unit 13, joined the department on February 26, 1978 and serves as Fire Chief. He has previously served as a Lieutenant and Captain on the department, and has a decade of experience as he continues in the role of Fire Chief. Chief Blaettnar is a graduate of Meigs High School, where he currently serves as Assistant Principal.

Todd Smith, Unit 47, joined the department on September 16, 1989, and will serve as First Assistant Fire Chief. He has previously served as a Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief. Todd Smith is a graduate of Meigs High School and works as an emergency room nurse practitioner.

Derek Miller, Unit 11, joined the department on April 1, 2007, and will serve as Second Assistant Chief and Secretary/Treasurer of the Firemen’s Association. Derek has served as a Lieutenant and Captain on the department and as President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Firemen’s Association. Derek also serves as President of the Meigs County Firefighter’s Association. He is a graduate of Meigs High School, and currently teaches sixth grade at Meigs Middle School.

Eddie Fife, Unit 19, joined the fire department on August 1, 2010. Fife will serve as First Captain of the Fire Department and President of the Pomeroy Firemen’s Association. Fife has served as Second Captain and Lieutenant, as well as 2 terms as Association President. Fife is a graduate of Meigs High School, and works for AEP as electrical substation transmission engineer.

Adam Smith, Unit 28, joined the department on August 22, 1995. Adam Smith will serve as 2nd Captain of the Fire Department. He has previously served as a Lieutenant and Captain. He is a graduate of Meigs High School, where he currently is the criminal justice instructor.

Michael Blaettnar, Unit 29, joined the department on April 3, 2005. He will continue in the role of First Lieutenant for the Fire Department. He has also served as a Lieutenant for 3 other terms. He is a graduate of Meigs High School, and currently works in the Heavy Operators Union, based out of Logan, Ohio.

Benjamin Young, Unite 36, joined the department on July 3, 2011. He will begin his first full term as the Second Lieutenant for the Fire Department. He has filled in as Second Lieutenant since July, 2017 after being promoted from Third Lieutenant. Benjamin has also served as President and Vice President of the Firemen’s Association. Young is a graduate of Meigs High School, and currently works as a dispatcher for Mason County, WV 911.

Willie Zahran, Unite 34, joined the department on October 5, 2014. Willie will continue in the role of Third Lieutenant, a position he has filled since July, 2017. Zahran is a graduate of Meigs High School, and currently works for Young’s Carpenter Service as a Carpenter/Job Supervisor.

Aaron Oliphant, Unit 23, joined the department on July 3, 2016. He currently serves as a firefighter with the Fire Department. He will continue in his role as Firemen’s Association Vice President, a position he has held since July, 2017. Oliphant is a graduate of Meigs High School, and is the facilities manager for Meigs Local Schools.
