At least 20 people were arrested Tuesday following a major law enforcement operation that dismantled a cocaine trafficking ring and disrupted a murder-for-hire plot, according to Miami police.

The early-morning operation, known as “Operation Primo,” or “Operation Cousin,” unfolded across multiple neighborhoods in the city of Miami and Miami-Dade County, with arrests beginning as early as 5 a.m., according to authorities.

According to police, undercover narcotics investigators, the FBI, and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office all participated in the coordinated sweep.

Miami Police confirmed that investigators discovered and thwarted a murder-for-hire operation while conducting the inquiry, albeit details are sparse.

“Today alone, detectives were able to arrest at least 20 subjects involved in this ring,” Miami Police spokesperson Kiara Delva stated. “This investigation also resulted in the disruption of a murder-for-hire case that detectives learned about through this ongoing investigation.”

According to the authorities, the operation saved one person’s life. The identity of the individual has yet to be revealed.

More arrests to be made

Police also revealed that further arrests are on the way, with at least 11 more individuals still wanted.

Investigators believe the suspects were members of an organized cocaine trafficking ring in South Florida.

“These individuals were involved in an operational organization to traffic cocaine,” Delva revealed.

The inquiry began in 2024 and resulted in considerable seizures, including:

  • More than 22 kilograms of cocaine
  • Over $120,000 in cash
  • Firearms and ammunition

The arrests occurred concurrently in Little Havana, Flagami, and the Coral Way area.

“They are still working to arrest more individuals in connection to this case,” she said.

Miami Police Chief Manuel A. Morales lauded the operation and cautioned criminal organizations operating in the city.

“This takedown sends a clear, unmistakable message: drug trafficking and the violence that follows it will not be tolerated in Miami,” Morales declared. “We will continue to dismantle criminal organizations, remove dangerous offenders from our streets, and protect the people of Miami.”

Authorities have stated that additional information may be disclosed as the investigation progresses.
