The Marshalltown Police Department detained three people in connection with an armed robbery.
According to the Marshalltown Police Department, officers were summoned to the UnityPoint Health Emergency Room about 4:10 a.m. Saturday after receiving complaints of an assault victim. Officers arrived at the scene and encountered the victim, who had sustained a head wound.
The victim informed Marshalltown PD that they had been assaulted with a firearm at a Marshalltown residence. Detectives and officers conducted interviews with both the victim and witnesses to the incident. During the inquiry, Marshalltown police discovered a suspect and accomplices.
Authorities apprehended all three at a property on North 3rd Street, where the suspect was known to live. The Marshalltown Police Department conducted a search warrant at the residence where evidence linked to the event was found.
The Marshalltown Police Department arrested Joshua Matthew Portales Jr., 21, and Juliet Arabella Fernandez, 21, both of Marshalltown, on the following charges:
- 1st Degree Robbery
- Willful Injury
- Assault while Participating in a Felony
- Going Armed with Intent
- Possession Schedule ll Controlled Substance – 3rd offense
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
- Theft 5th Degree
