Donald Nichelson Apprehended For Assaulting LEO During Arrest

The spitting-mad Fredericksburg man is facing a host of charges after becoming combative with members of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office attempting to arrest him for trespassing, according to authorities.

Deputies were dispatched to the 3400 block of Shannon Park Drive at 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, after receiving reports of a man trespassing.

Upon arrival, officers were informed that a man, later identified as Nichelson, was trespassing on the property despite being requested to leave.

According to the sheriff’s office, first responders discovered the person standing around the corner of the building, “heavily intoxicated” and refusing to leave.

The situation then deteriorated.

Investigators reported that Nichelson started struggling immediately after his arrest.

During the altercation, Nichelson allegedly kicked one deputy in the knee and spat in the face of another while leading them to a patrol vehicle. He later tried to kick out the vehicle’s window, but the window protectors prevented any damage.

Officials say one deputy sustained a minor injury.

Nichelson, 43, was charged with:

  • Drunk in public;
  • Trespassing;
  • Resisting arrest;
  • Two counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer.

He was taken to Rappahannock Regional Jail and remanded into custody.
