A woman from Wayne County, New York, has been taken into custody on a warrant out of Pennsylvania for stealing a vehicle from Tioga County.
Dakota Root, 24, was apprehended as a fugitive from justice in Pennsylvania on charges of criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a class D felony, according to a New York State Police release.
According to officials, Root was charged with the offense after the New York State Police received word from the Pennsylvania State Police that she was wanted on an active arrest warrant for car theft in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. At the time of the complaint, PSP believed she was in Wayne County with the vehicle.
Following an investigation, investigators say Root and the stolen vehicle were discovered at a home on Woodside Drive in the village of Newark. At this time, officials say Root acknowledged to driving the vehicle and was located with the key. Troopers recovered and seized the car.
Root was detained on the aforementioned charge and processed at the state police barracks in Lyons. She was subsequently transported to the Wayne County Jail for additional processing.
