Villager wanted on stalking charge apprehended in Village of Chitty Chatty

A Villager wanted on a stalking charge was apprehended in the Village of Chitty Chatty.

Andrew Cecil Benge, 61, of 805 Evans Way in the Village of Bridgeport at Lake Sumter, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the Julia Villas in the Village of Chitty Chatty.

After failing to appear in Sumter County Court on a stalking charge, he was given an arrest warrant.

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native was originally arrested in 2020 for reportedly stalking his estranged girlfriend on multiple occasions. Benge has been accused of turning up to her parents’ home in The Villages. He also allegedly approached her in a restaurant and then stood over her, yelling, “This is The Villages whore!” The woman said that his behavior had traumatized her to the point where she was restless and needed medication. Benge has also been arrested twice in Kansas for violating a protective order.

Following his arrest this week, he was jailed without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
